Agriculture is important in Ancram: Its 36 commercial farms take up about 38 percent of its total land, with another 35 percent taken up by other agricultural land. More than half of the commercial farms sell directly to the consumer. But eight out of 10 say their farms are either just breaking even, or are unprofitable.
